General availability: Text Analytics' Named Entity Recognition v3 now supports 10 languages with improved AI quality
Published date: January 29, 2021
Announcing the general availability of the updated Named Entity Recognition (NER) capability within Text Analytics, an Azure Cognitive Service. This newly released NER v3 model supports 10 languages with expanded categories and delivers more accurate results. It is based on pretrained multilingual Z-code models, part of our quest for holistic representations. Z-code draws its strength from transfer learning across monolingual and machine translation tasks as well as across many languages. The 10 languages supported in this model release are English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Portugal), and Portuguese (Brazilian). This model release recognizes, for the languages listed, the full set of supported NER categories including Person, PersonType, Location, Geopolitical Entity (GPE), Organization, Event, Product, Address, and many others listed in our documentation. Through the Text Analytics v3.x API, this model release can be accessed by default or by indicating “model-version=2021-01-15” as a parameter in the URL of the request.
