Changes to My Groups admin controls
Target retirement date: June 30, 2024
New settings will enable admins to restrict end users from viewing and editing security groups in My Groups. The existing settings that allow enabling or disabling of My Groups will be retired in June 2024.

General Availability: Support for Linux clients to use identity-based access to Azure file shares over SMB
Target availability: Q2 2023
Linux SMB clients can now use Azure Files identity based authentication and authorization. This capability is available to devices that are domain joined to either customer-managed Microsoft AD DS or Azure AD DS.

Generally available: DNS reservations to prevent subdomain takeover in Cloud Services deployments

As a preventive measure, DNS record is reserved for seven days to allow clean-up of dangling DNS domains or reclaim from same Azure Active Directory tenant only.

HDInsight ID Broker (HIB) provides modern OAuth authentication and enables federated users to login to cluster without syncing on-premise password hashes to the cloud.

Revocation of non-compliant Certificate Authorities potentially impacting customer’s Azure service(s).
Recent reports detailed Certificate Authorities that were not compliant with industry standards for trusted CAs. As per industry requirements, non-compliant CAs are being revoked requiring customers certificates to be re-issued.

In 2017, Azure AD Domain Services became available to host in an Azure Resource Manager network. Since then, we have been able to build a more secure service using the Azure Resource Manager‘s modern capabilities.

Azure Active Directory Domain Services meter name changes
The meter names of Azure Active Directory Domain Services directory objects will change between December 10, 2019, and February 1, 2020. The name changes will be in effect to accommodate upcoming enhancements. This won't impact existing service behavior, only the name you see on your bill.

Azure Files Active Directory (Azure AD) authentication with Azure AD domain services is now generally available
Azure Files offers fully managed file shares in the cloud that are accessible via the industry standard SMB protocol. Integration with Azure AD enables SMB access to Azure file shares using Azure AD credentials from Azure AD domain services domain joined Windows VMs.

Home realm discovery during sign-in for Microsoft 365 services
We are changing our Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) sign-in behavior to make room for new authentication methods and improve usability. During sign-in, Azure AD determines where a user needs to authenticate. Azure AD makes intelligent decisions by reading organization and user settings for the username entered on the sign-in page. This is a step towards a password-free future that enables additional credentials like FIDO 2.0.
