Public preview updates to Azure SQL Managed Instance boosts performance, scale, and flexibility
Published date: November 02, 2021
SQL Managed Instance is the cloud destination for modernizing your on-premises SQL Server applications at scale, combining the best of SQL Server with all the benefits of a fully-managed service. Recently announced investments provide even more performance, scale, and flexibility, allowing you to move more of your most demanding mission critical workloads to the cloud.
New premium-series hardware based on the 3rd Gen Intel® Xeon Scalable processor - code name Ice Lake, can provide you with faster compute and memory performance as well as improved IO and network experience over the standard-series (Gen 5) hardware offering. A new memory-optimized option within the premium-series delivers even more memory per vCore for the most memory-intensive workloads. The increased overall storage capacity to 16 TB in both the general purpose (generally available) and business critical service tiers provide more room for growth into the future.
New Windows Authentication support for Azure Active Directory gives you the benefit of modern authentication in the cloud without changing your applications, removes dependency on on-premises Active Directory, and provides IT administrators additional flexibility when migrating to the cloud.
