Auto-failover for managed instances in Azure SQL Database is now available
Published date: September 18, 2019
Now generally available, auto-failover groups enable business continuity after a catastrophic failure or other unplanned event by creating and managing a geographically redundant copy of managed instance. You have the ability to initiate failover manually during an outage. You also have the option to delegate it to the Azure SQL Database service based on a user-defined policy that automatically recovers multiple related databases in a secondary region when there’s a loss of the service’s availability in the primary region. Additionally, you can use the secondary instance to offload read-only query workloads.
