Check out the new Power BI embedded analytics playground (public preview). You can find in the new playground experiences for developer and non-developers to get first-hand experience of Power BI embedded analytics.
Target availability: Q3 2021
We are announcing the second generation of Power BI Embedded, referred to as Embedded Gen 2, is available for its Azure subscribers to use during the public preview period. All of the Power BI Embedded Gen 1 capabilities such as pausing and resuming the capacity, are preserved in Gen 2 and the price per SKU remains the same, however the Gen 2 capacity resource provides substantial improvements in performance, scale and much more.
Support for transport layer security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 for Power BI will end in June 2020. Upgrade the TLS version of your Power BI application to TLS 1.2 before then.
Power BI now has an additional set of capabilities that allow you to export a Power BI report by using a REST call to the following file formats – PDF, PPTX (PowerPoint) and PNG.
The new Power BI usage metrics report allows you to monitor the views of your report, and to see the consumption’s platform. For embedded reports, to see the different kinds of embed scenarios, simply hover over the embedded data.
Set your embedded Power BI reports to use a high contrast theme to enable users who may have visual or physical impairments to benefit from your reports.
Power BI report authoring APIs now support a new aggregation function when constructing data fields.
Generate an embed token with permissions for multiple Power BI reports, datasets, and target workspaces using the new Power BI API.
Power BI shared datasets are now supported in Power BI Embedded, allowing you to manage the connections of Power BI datasets and reports across workspaces. This capability enabled us to expand the following APIs and automate related scenarios:
Use dynamic binding to maintain a single template of a Power BI report that can be connected to multiple datasets across workspaces, instead of copying and maintaining hundreds of report duplicates.
The new filter pane goes live in all reports in April 2020. Turn it on now to fine-tune the formatting in your reports before then.
Service principal allows you to access resources or perform operations using Power BI API without the need for a user to sign in or have a Power BI Pro licence.
The new Power BI Report Authoring SDK extension allows programmatic creation of visuals, binding them to columns, measures, hierarchies and personalising them by setting properties such as axis visibility and titles.
A tool for automating load testing of Power BI Embedded capacities helps you understand how much user load your capacity can handle when used. It uses PowerShell to create automated load tests against your capacities, and lets you choose which reports to test and how many concurrent users to simulate.
Power BI Embedded recently improved performance in two key areas: embedding different reports into the same iframe and query caching for embedded reports.
The new Power BI filters experience is available in Power BI Embedded and in embedded reports as well. The new experience has an updated design and useful features, such as hide, lock and rename filters.
This new region allows customers to locate their Power BI Embedded deployments closer to their data sources, either in Azure or on-premises, enabling faster data refresh performance and lower networking egress costs.
We’ve added some accessibility improvements to applications using Power BI Embedded analytics that will help users of applications have additional ways to interact with Power BI Embedded visuals. These improvements include keyboard navigation, title attribution and tabbing.
