Azure Virtual Machines (VMs) are a great place to start exploring dev-test capabilities in the cloud. Development groups often use VMs as a quick, easy way to create an environment with specific configurations required to code and test an app. Azure provides a straightforward and economical way to create and use VMs then delete them when they’re no longer needed. Through the Azure Portal, you can quickly configure and deploy a wide range of VMs, including Windows and Linux, for on-demand computing solutions. Learn more about how Azure VMs can be used.

It’s easy to spin up any number of VMs to get started with your dev-test environment. Watch these short videos and review the step-by-step tutorials to create either a Windows VM or a Linux VM in only a few minutes. For more information, explore these frequently asked questions.

Azure Resource Manager offers pre-built application templates to help you deploy and manage compute, network, and storage resources on Azure as a group. Resource Manager templates enable fast deployment of complex applications. See the steps for Windows and Linux dev-test environments.
