We recently took a huge step in workload expansion by announcing the general availability of our NFS v4.1 shares.

NFS 4.1 support for Azure Files is now in preview

Azure Files is a distributed cloud file system serving Server Messaging Block (SMB) and REST protocols. Azure Files enables customers to easily lift and shift their legacy workloads to the cloud without any modifications or changes in technology. SMB works on both Windows and UNIX operating systems for most use cases. Because some applications are written for POSIX compliant file systems, our customers wanted to have the same great experience on a fully POSIX compatible NFS file system. Azure Files support for NFS v4.1 protocol is now in preview.

Announcing the general availability of Azure Files share snapshot

On-premises Azure Files access on Linux update and new troubleshooter

We had announced the availability of Linux on-premises and cross-region mounting of Azure Files for the first OS distribution – Ubuntu 17.04, in April. Today, we are happy to share that more Linux distributions now include this functionality, which will allow on-premises and cross-region mounting of Azure Files.
