Gen2 is Azure Maps newest pricing tier that gives users access to all map features with volume-based discounts. You only pay for the services you use. Prices below are per 1000 transactions.

Note on Transactions

For Maps, Traffic and Weather Tile requests, one transaction is created using increments of 15 tiles.

For multi-point ElevationPREVIEW requests, each API call counts as 2 transactions.

For ElevationPREVIEW Maps Tile requests, one API tile request is counted as 50 transactions.

For Route Matrix, one transaction is counted for every cell in the matrix. If you provided 5 origins and 10 destinations, that would be counted as 50 transactions.

For Batch Search calls, each individual query in the batch counts as a transaction. For Batch Route calls, each individual route calculation query in the batch counts as a transaction.

The pricing tiers operate under a waterfall model – once you reach the transaction ceiling for a pricing tier, all transactions thereafter will be at the next tier’s rate. Imagery Tiles, and Elevation and Mobility APIs do not qualify for volume based discounts. Billing is calculated on a monthly basis.

Gen1 pricing will remain in effect for existing Azure Maps customers but you are welcome to change pricing at any time. We strongly encourage you to evaluate the potential cost savings and additional product benefits you can achieve by moving to Gen2 pricing.

Frequently asked questions

  • We recommend Gen2 pricing for both existing as well as new Azure Maps customers. Gen2 pricing is perfect for new Azure Maps customers as it comes with a free monthly tier of transactions to be used to test and build on Azure maps.

For existing Azure Maps Gen1 S0 customers, moving to Gen2 will:

    • Remove your QPS (Queries Per Second) restriction
    • Make available all Azure Maps services
    • Allow you to achieve cost savings as Azure Maps transactions increases.

For existing Azure Maps customers on Gen1 S1 pricing, there is considerable advantage in moving to Gen2 pricing such as satellite imagery, batch search and route functions, matrix routing, route range (isochrones), spatial operations, geofencing, and elevation.

  • Please use our pricing calculator to simulate what your bill will look like.

  • Visit manage the pricing tier of your Azure Maps account page for instructions on how to change your pricing tier. If a customer chooses to switch from Gen1 (S0 or S1) pricing to Gen2 pricing, they will not be required to switch Azure Maps Keys or Active Directory (ADD) Client ID.
