Monthly Azure credit for Visual Studio Dev Essentials
- Try out different Azure services to experiment and learn
- Create development environments whenever you need them
- Spin up individual dev/test workloads easily
As a Visual Studio Dev Essentials member, you have the power of the cloud at your command. Integrated tools, pre-built templates, and managed services in Azure make it easier to build and manage enterprise, mobile, web, and Internet of Things (IoT) apps faster, using skills you already have and technologies you already know.
What can I buy with my monthly credit?
The choice is yours on how you use your monthly Azure credit. Use the credit toward on almost any Azure service including Virtual Machines, Web Apps, Cloud Services, Mobile Services, Storage, SQL Databases, Content Delivery Network, HDInsight, Media Services, and many more. All pricing for services uses the standard pay-as-you-go rates shown on the Pricing Calculator.
Support plans, Visual Studio subscriptions, Visual Studio Team Services, third-party branded products, products sold through Marketplace, and products otherwise sold separately from Azure (for example, Microsoft Azure Active Directory Premium) are not eligible for the monthly credit; you’ll be billed for any of these services used.
Need Azure for your dev team?
While the monthly Azure credit for Dev Essentials is great for your personal dev/test workloads, it isn’t optimal for work you’re doing as a team. Thankfully, we’ve created a couple options for you to get lower dev/test rates, access to Windows 10 for dev/test, along with other advantages:
Enterprise Dev/Test: if your organization has an Enterprise Agreement (EA) purchasing contract with Microsoft
Pay-As-You-Go Dev/Test: if you don’t have an EA
These team offers require all users to have active Visual Studio subscriptions, which are sold separately.
You will be notified at least 30 days in advance of any increases to the rates.
Any taxes which may result from receiving services at no charge are the sole responsibility of the recipient.
You must maintain an active Visual Studio Dev Essentials membership to enjoy this benefit. This offer is limited to one per new customer, and lasts for 12 months. It cannot be redeemed for an account where any other free offer has previously been redeemed. Upon expiration, you must remove your spending limit to convert your monthly credit for Dev Essentials to Pay-As-You-Go, otherwise your services will be disabled.
Credit or debit cards only, unless previously approved for invoice. Please note that we do not accept prepaid and virtual credit cards.
More details on pricing and billing can be found on our Pricing page.
You may cancel this subscription at any time. Payment is required for any outstanding fees incurred.

Limits, Quotas and Constraints
Please refer to this document for a list of common Microsoft Azure limits, quotas and constraints.
The following monthly usage quotas are applied. If you need more than these limits, please contact customer service at any time so that we can understand your needs and adjust these limits appropriately.
This benefit is for development and testing only. We reserve the right to suspend any instance (VM or cloud service) that runs continuously for more than 120 hours or if we determine that the instance is being used for production. Production workloads must be run on regular subscriptions.
Service Level Agreements
This benefit is exclusively for development and testing your applications. Usage within the subscription does not carry a financially-backed SLA, except for use of Visual Studio Team Services and HockeyApp.
All increases in usage levels of service resources (e.g. adding to the number of compute instances running, or increasing the amount of storage in use) are subject to the availability of these service resources. Any quota described in the Limits, Quotas and Constraints section is not a commitment that there will be sufficient resources available for you to reach the quota.
For any subscriptions of this offer that are not incurring charges and are inactive for more than 90 days, we reserve the right to remove any compute resources including hosted service(s), virtual machines and websites. Please note that no data would be deleted and customers can redeploy at any time. We will also provide advance notice prior to removing any compute resources.
You can also avoid having your compute resources removed by doing either of the following every 90 days:
