Azure API Management allows organizations to publish APIs more securely, reliably, and at scale. Use API Management to drive API consumption among internal teams, partners and developers while benefiting from business and log analytics available in the admin portal. This service helps provide the tools your organization needs for end-to-end API management—everything from provisioning user roles, creating usage plans and quotas, applying policies for transforming payloads, throttling, analytics, monitoring and alerts.
US government entities are eligible to purchase Azure Government services from a licensing solution provider with no upfront financial commitment or directly through a pay-as-you-go online subscription.

FAQ
-
Throughput and latency of the API Management gateway will vary widely depending on many factors, such as number and rate of concurrent connections, the kind and number of configured policies, request and response sizes and backend latency. Therefore, we recommend that prior going into production customers load test their API Management service instances with their specific configurations and request patterns. The Standard and Premium tiers have been tested with peak loads of up to 1000 and 5000 requests/second with a minimal policy set and low latency backend. If you have additional questions, please contact us.
-
The Developer tier is for API Management trial, development, and functional test. Customers should not use this tier for production.
-
No. There is no on-premises deployment option available at this time but you can vote on uservoice if you’d like this capability. However, you can certainly use Azure-based API management with on-premises systems and data.

Customers can scale API Management by adding and removing units. Each unit has capacity that depends on its tier. For example, the Standard tier includes 200 million API calls per month, 1 terabyte of bandwidth per month, and throughput of approximately 1000 requests per second. As you add additional units, capacity scales proportionately. For example, 2 units of Standard provides 400 million API calls per month, 2 terabytes of bandwidth, and approximately 2000 requests per second.
