VM Images replace OS Images

den 3 april 2014

VM Image is the new and improved image entity and replaces OS Images.  It includes the OS disk, and adds data disks.  Capture a VM (running or shut down) to create a VM Image.  The underlying operating system may be generalized (for example, sys prep has been run for Windows or `waagent –deprovision’ executed for Linux - like an OS Image today), or specialized (where the provisioning information remains intact).  Once captured, use a VM Image to deploy new VMs.  Think of the generalized VM Image as a model you can use to use to stamp out similar VMs, and the  specialized VM Image as a snapshot of the disks used to deploy a VM to a known good point in time.
