Azure DevTest Labs: Export lab VM usage data for reporting
Published date: March 30, 2017
Azure DevTest Labs now enables lab administrators to programmatically pull usage data from labs into a secondary Azure storage account. Then the data can be manipulated and visualized through other tools, like SQL Server, Azure Data Lake, and Power BI.
As a lab admin, if you want to report your labs’ usage externally—for example, to your management team, which isn't necessarily using your Azure subscription—you can use this feature. The following charts show an example of what you can get as an end result (based on your queries) by using the exported data:
The data is exported as two different CSV files:
- disks.csv, which contains information about the disks being used by the different VMs
- virtualmachines.csv, which contains information about the virtual machines in the lab
