Microsoft Azure Hybrid Use Benefit
Move to the cloud for less using your existing Windows Server license and Software Assurance
Now you can move your existing Windows Server licenses to Azure and take advantage of significant savings as you extend your datacenter to the cloud
With the Azure Hybrid Use Benefit, you can use on-premises Windows Server licenses that include Software Assurance to earn special pricing for new Windows Server virtual machines in Azure—whether you’re moving a few workloads or your entire datacenter.
Here’s one example of how much you could save by running Windows Server on Azure using Azure Hybrid Use Benefit. When using on-premises Windows Server licenses with Software Assurance, you only pay only the base compute rate.
*Savings based two virtual machines in US East 2 Region running 744 hours/month for 12 months; Base compute rate at SUSE Linux Enterprise rate for US East 2; SA cost (Level A) for Windows Server standard edition (one 2-proc license or a set of 16 core licenses); Prices as of October 26, 2016; Prices subject to change.

The Azure Hybrid Use Benefit helps you get the most value from licenses on-premises and in the cloud. It lets you apply your Windows Server licenses covered with Software Assurance to use Azure Virtual Machines at the base compute rate, starting February 1, 2016 across all Azure regions.
- What is the base compute rate?
The base compute rate used to calculate the Azure Hybrid Use Benefit is equal to the Linux rate for virtual machines.
- Who qualifies for the Azure Hybrid Use Benefit?
Every Windows Server Standard or Datacenter license with Software Assurance is eligible for use with the AZURE HYBRID USE BENEFIT. AZURE HYBRID USE BENEFIT is not restricted to any specific licensing program. The key requirement is to have an active Software Assurance.
- What does the benefit offer?
The Azure Hybrid Use Benefit applies to Windows Server Standard and Datacenter Editions. Each 2-Processor license OR each set of 16-Core licenses are entitled for two instances up to 8 cores, or one instance up to 16 cores. - How do I take advantage of this benefit?
If you are a customer with Enterprise Agreement, then you can select images from Azure Marketplace that are pre-configured with Azure Hybrid Use Benefit and deploy using Azure portal, Resource Manager templates, or Azure PowerShell.
Otherwise, you can upload a custom VM and deploy using PowerShell.
