Public preview: Extended Events for Azure SQL Database

Published date: October 12, 2015
Along with Query Data Store (QDS) and DMVs, the Extended Events feature provides an enhanced monitoring and troubleshooting experience for your Azure SQL Database. The Extended Events feature in Azure SQL Database V12 is now available as a database-scoped general event-handling system. In this preview release, you can use the following targets to capture results from your event sessions in SQL Database:
  • Ring Buffer target
  • Event Counter target
  • Event File target in Azure Storage
You can use Extended Events as a diagnostic tool for your SQL Database, such as troubleshooting various performance issues, SQL statement executions, or full-text related errors. Event sessions can be configured and maintained by using familiar developer tools such as SQL Server Management Studio. (The September 2015 Preview Release is required. See Download SQL Server Management Studio). As part of this release, new Dynamic Management Views (DMVs) and Data Definition Languages (DDLs) are available to support Extended Events.
