Introducing a quicker Mobile Apps Quickstart

Published date: August 12, 2016

The traditional process for using the Mobile Apps feature of Azure App Service has been somewhat long winded. Aside from creating a mobile app, you have to create an Azure SQL Database server and database, link the two, and deploy some code, and then you are ready to actually develop a mobile client. This can take 15 minutes even in the best-case scenario. Today, we are introducing a new method of creating a mobile back end via the Mobile Apps Quickstart.

The Mobile Apps Quickstart is a preconfigured mobile back end suitable for development purposes and learning about mobile back ends. It provides a base mobile back end by using a SQLite database for data storage. This means that you can immediately start using it without hooking up an external database. You can still access features like Easy Tables and Easy APIs, hook up authentication, and push notifications—anything that does not rely on a SQL Database instance.
