General availability: New Azure Monitor built-in policy for Log Analytics workspace and linked automation account

Published date: July 14, 2021

Getting started with deployment of Log Analytics workspaces can bring challenges such as; should teams deploy their own workspaces, should workspaces be central to make them easier to manage, etc. When designing your Azure Monitor Logs deployment and needing to deploy workspaces at scale and consistently, you typically want to consider using policies that help you audit and enforce compliance, but also achieve deployments and consistency per given scope.

We are releasing a new built-in policy that helps automate central Log Analytics workspace deployment in your environments. The policy checks for existence of the central workspace name and if not found in scope, these resources are deployed with default names that you can modified when assigning the policy:

Resource

Resource group

Log Analytics workspace

Automation account

Linked automation account

The policy gives you control to provision Log Analytics workspaces and automation account across your subscriptions consistently for central logs monitoring. The automation account is required for solution like Updates and Change Tracking.
