General availability: Live Encoding for Azure Media Services

Live Encoding for Azure Media Services expands on our live cloud platform. Live Encoding combines with dynamic packaging, dynamic encryption, subclipping, dynamic manifest manipulation, ad-marker insertion, and near-seamless live/on-demand capabilities to build comprehensive live and cloud DVR workflows.Common use cases include event-based streaming with dynamic ad insertion and streaming with cloud DVR requirements. This technology was used to power digital coverage of some of the largest events on the planet, including Super Bowl XLIX and the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. Features include:
  • Live encoding of single-bitrate live feeds into adaptive bitrate streams
  • Ingesting live feeds over RTP protocol (MPEG transport streams), RTMP, and Smooth Streaming
  • Controlling insertion of slates and signaling ad insertions to clients
  • Previewing thumbnails of live feeds
