Create SharePoint Server Farms in the Azure Preview portal

Published date: July 22, 2014
At the Worldwide Partner Conference we announced support for managing virtual machines in the Azure Preview portal. It’s now easier than ever before to create, manage, and monitor your virtual machines. We also made it easier to create and manage applications that are composed of multiple virtual machines and other Azure services. We’re also announcing support for our first multi-virtual machine gallery item: a SharePoint Server Farm. Fill in three fields – a name, username, and password – and create a three- or nine-server farm. Three-server farms are optimized for dev/test scenarios, while the nine-server farm is a highly-available and production-ready version that creates and automatically configures the following servers:
  • 2 servers for Active Directory, with primary and backup domain controllers
  • 3 servers for SQL Server AlwaysOn, comprised of 2 SQL Servers in an Availability Group and a File Share Witness
  • 4 servers for SharePoint, with 2 load-balanced web servers and 2 load-balanced app servers
To get started, visit the Azure Preview portal and click the “SharePoint Server Farm” link in the gallery, or simply go here. You can also read more about creating SharePoint Server Farms in the Azure Preview portal in this blog post.
