IoT Central Demo
Azure IoT Central is a fully managed global IoT SaaS (software-as-a-service) solution that makes it easy to connect, monitor, and manage your IoT assets at scale.
Contoso Inc makes refrigerated vending machines for use by its customers including drinks machines, food and snack machines, and custom devices like refrigerated medicine dispensers. Contoso knew that connecting their vending machines to the cloud would provide increased levels of availability and reliability, giving their customers piece of mind and satisfaction, while opening up new revenue opportunities in maintenance and service contracts.
Contoso recognized that adding IoT to machines wasn't always easy and they didn’t have the skill set so rather than looking to hire dedicated resources to build their own solution they looked to Microsoft's IoT Central. Azure IoT Central is a fully managed SaaS (software-as-a-service) solution that removes the need for cloud solution expertise and makes it easy to connect, monitor and manage your IoT assets at scale. Azure IoT Central simplifies the initial setup of your IoT solution and reduces the management burden, operational costs, and overhead of a typical IoT project.
Click through this demo to learn how Builders can easily create and configure an IoT solution, and provide Operators with an easy to manage and use Azure IoT Central application.
Rhonda is a Builder at Contoso who is skilled at device side engineering but not the cloud. Product Managers at Contoso are planning to add new monitoring to it’s vending machines and Rhonda is tasked to IoT-enable Contoso’s products. Rhonda can start from an existing application template. After she evaluates the free trial she can provision her production application easily.
Create a device
Rhonda is able to choose a template and create a device right away.
Make it your device
Rhonda is able to add a name and a product image to represent her device so that it is easily identifiable in the application.
Define and simulate device measurements
Rhonda can define the capabilities of her vending machine, and can test them by simulating telemetry even before connecting a physical device.
Rhonda can define rules based on device attributes and streaming data, that trigger a wide range of actions that map to business processes. (e.g. sending an email when a threshold is reached)
Using drag and drop, Rhonda can populate the dashboard with meaningful tiles representative of device capabilities, configuring the view for operators.
Properties can be associated with a device allow any operator to access all relevant information about a device, like serial number or location.
Karl is an Operations Manager in charge of different types of vending machines on behalf of several clients. Karl and his team ensure that none of the assets Contoso manages have issues, and if they do, they are fixed asap. Karl is able to use the operator homepage Rhonda designed for him to quickly access all aspects of the solution.
A rule has triggered and alerted Karl to an issue with the temperature on a machine. He can click the link to open the IoT Application directly to the machine concerned.
Karl can use the device dashboard to see a meaningful summary of device conditions, and take action on the recent temperature increase.
Karl can change a setting on the application to apply on the remote device and will be informed when the change has taken place.
Time Series Analytics
Karl can use the embedded time series analytics charts to monitor all connected devices and make sure that all machines are operating within normal parameters.
