- Set lab policies to automate VM start and stop actions and cap resources such as VMs per user or per lab. Track and monitor usage through Azure Cost Management to maintain visibility and avoid unnecessary spend.
- Use custom images to reproduce environments consistently. Add tools and packages through artifacts, and adjust configurations anytime with formulas to speed up setup and iteration.
- Provision environments using the REST API directly from your CI process. Deploy through your release pipeline with the Team Services tasks extension, and automate setup and cleanup using the command line tool.
- Manage dev environments centrally, run compatibility or automated tests with reusable templates, or support short‑term events like hackathons with VMs that expire automatically. Use the service flexibly to match your team’s needs.
