In September we announced the Public Preview of Azure Active Directory B2B collaboration, a new service to help you simply and securely enable partner single sign on to your company’s resources.

On today’s Microsoft Mechanics show, our program manager for this service, Arvind Suthar, shows you how you can use Azure AD B2B collaboration to share app resources with a partner that has Azure Active Directory and share app resources with a partner that does not have Azure Active Directory.

We also take a moment to show you exactly how the technology works behind the scenes and what’s coming.

Simplifying cross-organization collaboration

Azure AD B2B collaboration represents a shift from the complexity and cost of per partner federation relationships both for your company and your business partners and the ongoing burden of maintaining partner user accounts in your own directory. These accounts can get stale and become a security risk as people move on and unless maintained they allow continued access to your app resources.

The shift with B2B collaboration – is simplified sharing of your app resources with business partners, even if they’ve never heard of Azure AD and currently don’t have it. You manage access invitations via email and your partners in turn get single sign-on to company resources. Because this is powered by Azure Active Directory, if a user leaves your partner organization access is immediately revoked.

B2B collaboration with Azure AD, supports the sharing of SaaS app resources including Office 365, Salesforce, Azure Services and mobile Cloud and on-premises applications that are claims-aware.

Best of all, this feature set is free for all Azure AD customers – if you have Azure, Office 365, Enterprise Mobility Suite or Microsoft Intune – essentially any Microsoft online service, you can start trying it today.
