Microsoft Azure Storage is a cloud-based service, available on the Microsoft Azure Cloud platform, which provides large-scale storage for multiple types of data, including Blobs, Files, Queues, Tables and Disks. The Immutable Storage for Azure Blobs feature, with the Policy Lock option, is designed to meet securities industry requirements for preserving records in a non-rewriteable and non-erasable format. Each Blob (record) is protected from being modified, overwritten or deleted until the required retention period has expired and any associated legal holds have been released. In this Report, Cohasset Associates, Inc. (“Cohasset”) assesses the capabilities of Microsoft Azure Storage relative to the recording, storage, and retention requirements for electronic records specified in Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 17 CFR § 240.17a-4(f), which regulates exchange members, brokers or dealers.
