Frequently asked questions

  • Azure Storage Discovery is a fully managed service that provides enterprise-wide visibility into your Azure Blob Storage and Data Lake Storage estates. It helps you analyze storage usage, optimize costs, assess security posture, and drive operational efficiency.
  • Currently, it supports Azure Blob Storage and Data Lake Storage accounts. Azure Files and other storage types are not yet supported.
  • It is a standalone analytical service but complements existing Azure Blob Storage capabilities.
  • You can view:
    • Storage capacity trends
    • Transaction counts and volumes for ingress and egress
    • Error counts 
    • Security and configuration status
    • Top storage accounts by size or activity
  • Yes. You can ask natural language questions (such as “ Show me a chart of my storage account count by redundancy.”) and Copilot will return visual and textual insights without needing to write queries.
  • Create a storage discovery workspace via the Azure portal, CLI, or PowerShell. The workspace defines the scope (subscriptions, resource groups) for analysis.
