FAQ

  • Customers can go to https://aka.ms/iotservicespreview to access the public preview version of Windows 10 IoT Core Services. Since Windows 10 IoT Core Services is an Azure solution, customers have a variety of flexible payment options to make their purchase, including pay-as-you-go subscriptions and enterprise agreements.

  • The free edition of Windows 10 IoT Core is intended to encourage proof of concept projects by enabling you to quickly start building a new device solution. It is serviced through the Semi-Annual Channel which releases feature updates twice a year that include new features along with a cumulative roll-up of security and reliability updates. Internet connected devices will automatically install these feature updates which often isn’t desired for a commercial device. Devices enrolled in Windows 10 IoT Core Services use the Long-term Servicing Channel which provides 10 years of support for specific releases and allows control of updates.

  • Consider the following scenarios -

    1. Scenario 1 - A customer has 100 devices which require to be updated, managed, and monitored for security reasons including 10 years of support. In this case, the customer subscribes to Windows 10 IoT Core Services for all 100 devices.

      Total Monthly Charge = 100 * $0.3/Device = $30

    2. Scenario 2 - A customer has 500 devices which require to be updated, managed, and monitored for security reasons including 10 years of support. In this case, the customer subscribes to Windows 10 IoT Core Services for all 500 devices.

      Total Monthly Charge = 500 * $0.3/Device = $150

  • Consider the following scenarios -

    1. Scenario 1 - A customer has 100 devices at the beginning of the month and adds another 50 devices 15 days into the month. In this case, the customer will be prorated for 100 devices for the first 15 days and prorated for 150 devices for the last 15 days.

      100 devices prorated for the first 15 days of the month = (100 devices * $0.3/31 daily per unit rate * first 15 days = $14.517)

      150 devices prorated for the last 15 days of the month = (150 devices * $0.3/31 daily per unit rate * last 15 days = $21.775)

      Total = $36.291 ($36.291)

    2. Scenario 2 - A customer has 100 devices at the beginning of the month and adds another 50 devices 20 days into the month. In this case, the customer will be prorated for 100 devices for the first 20 days and prorated for 150 devices for the last 10 days.

      100 devices prorated for the first 20 days of the month = (100 devices * $0.3/31 daily per unit rate * first 20 days = $19.355)

      150 devices prorated for the last 10 days of the month = (150 devices * $0.3/31 daily per unit rate * last 10 days = $14.517)

      Total = $33.871 ($33.871)
