Prices are estimates only and are not intended as actual price quotes. Actual pricing may vary depending on the type of agreement entered with Microsoft, date of purchase, and the currency exchange rate. Prices are calculated based on US dollars and converted using London closing spot rates that are captured in the two business days prior to the last business day of the previous month end. If the two business days prior to the end of the month fall on a bank holiday in major markets, the rate setting day is generally the day immediately preceding the two business days. This rate applies to all transactions during the upcoming month. Sign in to the Azure pricing calculator to see pricing based on your current program/offer with Microsoft. • Azure offers free egress for customers leaving Azure when taking their data out of the Azure infrastructure via the internet to switch to another cloud provider or an on-premises data center. Azure already offers the first 100 GB/month of egressed data for free to all customers in all Azure regions around the world (see Internet Egress table above). If you need to egress more than 100 GB/month, please follow these steps to claim your credit.

  • Yes. Availability Zone is different from Zone.

Zone is a geographical grouping of Azure Regions for billing purpose. Data transfer pricing is based on the Zones. For Zone details, please refer to FAQ below.

Availability Zone is an isolated location inside of an Azure Region, and has its own independent power source, network, and cooling. The physical and logical separation of Availability Zones within an Azure region protects applications and data from zone-level failures.

  • Yes. Outbound data transfer is charged at the normal rate and inbound data transfer is free.
  • We do not charge academic customers for Internet egress provided your institution meets certain eligibility requirements. Academic customers must be an Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) education customer to be eligible, and the egress charges must be less than 15% of the total monthly consumption bill. Egress is not waived for traffic over ExpressRoute or CDN, in addition to customers using egress-as-a-service applications like MOOCs. For more information, please refer to the EES program page.

  • Data transfer from Azure origin to Azure CDN Standard from Microsoft Standard is only charged if the origin is Azure Media Services.

Data transfer from Azure origin to Azure CDN Standard from Akamai, Azure CDN Standard from Verizon, or Azure CDN Premium from Verizon is only charged if the origin is Azure Media Services. These charges will be waived off if the CDN resources are created via the CDN integration within an Azure Media Service resource through the Azure portal or API.
