Our annual developer event, Microsoft Build, will take place May 7–9, 2019, at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. The event invites developers, engineers, programmers, and all-around tech creators to gather around emerging technological concepts, including quantum computing.
This year, Microsoft Build will feature six quantum computing sessions led by some of our top engineers and researchers, as well as quantum enthusiasts in the industry. There will also be a Quantum booth, located in the Applications & Infrastructure area of the Microsoft Hub, where attendees can meet a few of our quantum computing developers, learn the fundamentals of quantum, see a demo of quantum programming and applications, and ask quantum questions.

Monday, May 6th
- 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM PST. Realizing quantum solutions today with Quantum Inspired Optimization and the Microsoft Quantum Development Kit chemistry library – Martin Roetteler, Andrew Fursman (1QBit), and Helmut Katzgraber. Join a startup, 1Qbit, to learn how quantum computing can solve real-world problems in Chemistry using Q# and the new quantum libraries. And join our Quantum Inspired Optimization (QIO) team to learn how our current customers are using applications to find better classical solutions by looking at their quantum counterparts.
Tuesday, May 7th
- 9:00 AM – 9:20 AM PST. Developing with the Microsoft Quantum Development Kit and Jupyter Notebook – Chris Granade, Andres Paz. We continue to improve the Quantum Development Kit to make it approachable to an even wider set of quantum enthusiasts. Join Chris and Andres in this theater session to learn how you can get started developing quantum solutions with the Quantum Development Kit and Jupyter Notebooks. Additionally, you’ll learn more about how to simulate Q# operations and functions within Python.
- 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM PST. Talk Tech with Quantum Computing – Anita Ramanan and Frances Tibble. Join Anita and Frances, two Microsoft software engineers, for a gentle introduction to quantum computing and learn how you can start developing for quantum hardware today. You can find them in The Hub-Community Zone.
Wednesday, May 8th
- 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM PST. Learning Q# with Python: Building the quantum programming community – Sarah Kaiser (Pensar Development). There are many barriers to engaging new learners in quantum computing that often stem from the language and traditional methods. Q# is the new quantum programming language developed by Microsoft. It offers a unique new approach to teaching quantum programming concepts with a domain-specific language. In this session, Sarah Kaiser will demo core quantum computing concepts using Q# and Python to help quantum programming newcomers get started faster.
- 11:30 AM – 11:50 AM PST – Programming for a quantum computer with Q# and Visual Studio – Bettina Heim. Join Bettina Heim to explore a demo series around the most interesting and newest language features of Q#. Learn how to effectively use Visual Studio and Visual Studio code to build quantum solutions.
- 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM PST. Assessing Quantum Solutions with the Quantum Development Kit Resources Estimator – Chris Granade and Michael Beverland. In this talk, Chris and Michael will explain how to use Q# to implement a quantum solution, and then use the Quantum Development Kit to estimate the cost required; they focus on quantum impacts to classical security as a case study. You’ll find them in The Hub-Community Zone.
