As a leader of the GenAI team, Weizhu Chen is responsible for driving next-generation AI innovation in model customization and adoption. He enables the company to train specialized models for specific product scenarios, particularly leveraging OpenAI models. His research has made groundbreaking contributions to the AI community, including LoRA, DeBERTa, Phi, and Rho-1.

Weizhu has delivered significant business value across multiple product groups, including Azure AI, GitHub, Office, Biz Apps, MAI, DevDiv, and Security. For example, his team owned model quality and successfully collaborated to launch GitHub Copilot GA in 2022, introducing a tremendously successful product and establishing Microsoft’s first Copilot. His work on LoRA has revolutionized LLM adoption, making it more efficient, cost-effective, and accessible, powering numerous Microsoft products and influencing the entire industry. His work of integrating the BerryRL process into Microsoft’s products has significantly improved model training efficiency and quality across multiple applications, such as Codex-V2 and SWE-Agent.
