Azure Site Recovery Updates: Support for Gen2 VMs, networking enhancements, and larger operating system drives
Published date: March 26, 2015
Today we are excited to announce multiple features that further deliver on the promise for Azure Site Recovery (ASR) to enable Azure as a data recovery site for enterprises and service providers of all sizes.
- While Azure works on enabling native support for Generation 2 VMs, we are introducing functionality within ASR that will convert Gen2 VMs to Gen1 during fail over to Azure, and convert them back to Gen2 when you fail back to your on-premises site. This feature has been the top ask from our customers. It will be available to a limited set of users at launch, and it will roll out broadly in the coming weeks.
- With the announcement of octupled operating system drive size, ASR also removes restrictions on operating system drives that are larger than 127 GB. For more information, see Azure VM OS drive limit has octupled!
- Networking enhancements add support for subnet mapping and for multiple network adapters on VMs that fail over to Azure, retaining the VM’s IP address post failover to Azure.
