Generally available: Geospatial support in Azure Cosmos DB
Published date: September 17, 2015
Building location-aware applications and Internet of Things (IoT) systems is easier with the availability of geospatial support in Azure Cosmos DB. Azure Cosmos DB now natively understands spatial data, such as points and polygons represented in the GeoJSON standard. The latest Azure Cosmos DB service update includes support for automatic indexing of geospatial data, in addition to SQL Server support for performing proximity queries of data stored in Azure Cosmos DB. Customers can download version 1.4.1 of the .NET SDK to find new types for representing points and polygons, support for creating and enabling spatial indexing in Azure Cosmos DB collections, and new LINQ operators for performing spatial queries. Geospatial data is also fully supported through REST APIs and other SDKs. For more information, please visit the Azure Blog.
