Connect and monitor your devices with remote monitoring

Kate is an operator responsible for maintaining different types of assets (HVAC, trucks, lifts etc.) in the Seattle area. As the operator, she manages assets on behalf of several clients whose assets report telemetry directly to her dashboard. A day in the life for Kate is ensuring that none of the assets she manages have issues, and if they do, they are fixed asap.

Before having an IoT solution, Kate relied on regular on-site servicing rotations or her clients to escalate issues. She typically interacted with the remote systems physically on-site via USB, and that action included potential downtime and\or service disruption.

The Azure IoT remote monitoring solution enables operators like Kate to monitor, configure and remediate through a central dashboard. Kate can make changes dynamically, evaluate impact and act upon a large set of devices virtually. Let’s see how this is done using Azure IoT solutions accelerators...

From the homepage, the operator can utilise the dashboard to visualise and monitor system status. Controls include live device telemetry, device map, system KPIs and system alarms.

The Alarm detail in the Maintenance tab shows all the information related to the High-Pressure alarm, including occurrences, open\ack\closed alarms, affected devices and associated live telemetry.

Now that the operator has all the relevant information, they can start the remediation process.

The first step is to ’Acknowledge’ the alarm so that others know that it is being worked on.

Execute jobs

The operator selects the device(s) they’d like to take an action on.

And schedules a job to release the pressure for the device.

The operator watches the telemetry chart on the maintenance page and verifies that the pressure valve release reduced the pressure for the alarming device.

Now that the alarm has been resolved, Kate can close the incident.
