How pricing works
Azure Red Hat OpenShift offers two deployment models:

Standard clusters where control plane runs on VMs in your subscription – These clusters are billed on two components:
- Azure Infrastructure: Your cluster runs on Azure Virtual Machines, both control plane nodes and worker nodes, billed at standard Linux VM pricing.
- OpenShift license: You will incur a flat OpenShift license fee for the worker cores your cluster consumes. The rate is the same regardless of VM series, size, or generation — the vCPUs (cores) are counted across your worker nodes and billed at one flat rate. Control plane nodes are not charged a separate license fee.

Hosted Control Planes where Microsoft hosts the control plane for the cluster – These clusters are billed on three components:
- Azure Infrastructure: Your cluster deploys Azure Virtual Machines as worker nodes, billed at standard Linux VM pricing.
- OpenShift license: You will incur a flat OpenShift license fee for the worker cores your cluster consumes. The rate is the same regardless of VM series, size, or generation — the vCPUs (cores) are counted across your worker nodes and billed at one flat rate.
