Improvements to meter names for Enterprise Agreement customers

Published date: June 27, 2018

A common request from our customers and partners has been to make the names of our usage meters more consistent and easier to understand.

Effective August 16, 2018, we’ll introduce improved standardized meter names for Azure Virtual Machines. Meter name changes for all other services will be effective by the end of October 2018.

The Microsoft part number descriptions that are associated with your Azure usage on your overage invoice and the product name shown through the enterprise portal will change to reflect the new naming convention as well. Pricing or part numbers will not change.

These changes will make it easier for you to manage Azure resources and create a consistent taxonomy between feature pages on the Azure website, detailed usage data, APIs, and invoices. Although these changes will not affect the usage data, rates, or meter ID, you'll need to adjust your reports to accommodate the new naming conventions.

As a part of the improvements, you will see changes to the region name and unit of measure in October, in addition to the meter category, meter sub-category, and meter name changes effective in August. Region names will change as follows: 'USGov' to 'US Gov,' 'Gov (US)' to 'US Gov Zone 1', 'DoD (US)' to 'US Gov Zone 2', 'DE (Trustee)' to 'DE Zone 1', and 'All Regions' to a blank/null value.

See the following table for illustrative examples of name changes.

You can download a detailed spreadsheet that contains all meters and their before/after attribute values. This list will be refreshed each month until all changes are implemented in production by end of October 2018, so please check back regularly for updates. If you need to continue to report by using the old names, use the mappings in this file.

We’ve also compiled instructions to help you update any reports that rely on the meter attribute names. If you are using the Power BI content pack to report on your usage, we encourage you to migrate to the latest version of the content pack as soon as possible to avoid any changes to your reporting when the Microsoft Azure Enterprise content pack is decommissioned at the end of December 2018. Learn more about the latest release of the content pack and how the naming improvements will affect your reports. If you have questions, contact Azure Support.
