Migrate SQL Server databases for Windows users to SQL managed instance

Published date: 13 November, 2019

Support is now available in preview for T-SQL Data Definition Language (DDL) for Windows users and groups migrating from SQL Server databases to SQL managed instance with Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) authentication. The engine support provided enables a manual migration using T-SQL Data Definition Language (DDL) commands executed after restoring an SQL Server database on SQL managed instance. For users who consider a migration from SQL Server to SQL a managed instance, this feature helps map Windows users and groups to Azure AD users and groups. All permissions and database-role memberships will be retained for the migrated database users.
