Introducing B12, B16 & B20 – new larger B-series VM sizes with flexible CPU usage
Published date: 01 July, 2019
We have heard our customers asking for larger B-series sizes, and we are pleased to announce that, starting in July, we have released three new B-series sizes: B12ms, B16ms and B20ms. These are lower-cost VMs with flexible CPU usage.
Target workloads
As with other B-series offerings, workloads that have ‘peaks and valleys’ usage patterns can take full advantage of the cost savings that these new sizes can offer. Workloads like build servers require 100% CPU utilisation when the build is running, while the rest of the time, the servers can run at much lower CPU utilisation rate. By using B-series you can keep your build servers’ costs down and the developers happy. Other workloads include Dev and Test environments and web servers with customer engagement patterns that are subject to burst.
Conversely, B-series VMs would not be a good fit for web servers with consistent login rates. For this type of workload, a D-series virtual machine, which offer access to 100% consistent CPU, is a better choice.
