Cognitive Services Text Analytics’ Named Entity Recognition is now available

We are happy to announce the general availability of Named Entity Recognition supporting English and Spanish languages as part of Azure Cognitive Services Text Analytics API. Named Entity Recognition (NER) is the ability to take free-form text and identify the occurrences of entities such as people, locations, organisations and more. With a simple API call, NER in Text Analytics uses robust machine learning models to find and categorise more than twenty types of named entities in any text document.

We have also released 19 new language models for public preview increasing our NER human language coverage to 21.  In addition to English and Spanish, we have enabled the full set of supported types for three more languages in public preview; French, German and Chinese-Simplified.

The following types and their corresponding languages are now supported.
