Azure SQL Database serverless compute tier is now in preview

Now in preview, the Azure SQL Database serverless compute tier optimises price performance and simplifies performance management for databases that have intermittent, unpredictable usage. It automatically scales compute for single databases based on workload demand and bills for compute used per second. Serverless databases automatically pause during inactive periods when only storage is billed and automatically resume when activity returns. Serverless also helps users focus on building apps faster and more efficiently. Like all databases in SQL Database, serverless databases are up to date and highly available, and benefit from built-in intelligence for security and performance optimisation.
