Auto-failover for managed instances in Azure SQL Database is now available
Published date: 18 September, 2019
Now generally available, auto-failover groups enable business continuity after a catastrophic failure or other unplanned event by creating and managing a geographically redundant copy of managed instance. You have the ability to initiate failover manually during a power cut. You also have the option to delegate it to the Azure SQL Database service based on a user-defined policy that automatically recovers multiple related databases in a secondary region when there’s a loss of the service’s availability in the primary region. Additionally, you can use the secondary instance to offload read-only query workloads.
