Generally availability: Cluster scaling for HDInsight

You can change the number of nodes of a running HDInsight cluster without having to delete or re-create it. Currently, only Hadoop Query and Apache Storm cluster types have this ability, but support for the Apache HBase cluster type is soon to follow.For more information, please visit the Cluster Scaling in HDInsight webpage.
