  • You can move the following Azure resources:

    • Azure Virtual Machines and associated disks
    • Network interface cards
    • Availability sets
    • Azure Virtual Network resources
    • Public IP addresses
    • Network security groups
    • Internal load balancers
    • Public load balancers
    • SQL databases
    • Elastic pools
    • Resource groups
  • The service supports moving from any public Azure region to any other public Azure region, and moving resources within regions in China.

  • Yes, you can move multiple resources in a single move. Depending on how much data each resource has, the time it takes to move multiple resources varies.

  • Yes, Availability Zones are supported depending on the availability in the target Azure region. Please refer to the Availability Zone region roadmap for more details.

  • No, Azure Resource Mover moves resources only between Azure public regions. Azure Migrate provides a central hub for assessment and migration and moves resources from on-premises environments to Azure.

  • You may perform as many test migrations as you'd like, so you have ample time to test and validate your migration. On your final migration, rollback is automated until your final commit. Even after committing, your original resources remain intact until you decide to delete them.

  • Yes, you can delete your source files after a move is completed.

  • Azure Resource Mover is a free service available with any Azure subscription.

  • Azure Resource Mover is available at no additional charge. However, you may incur charges associated with the move:

    • Network Bandwidth costs: These are costs associated to data moving out of Azure regions.
    • Egress or Outbound data transfer costs: E.g.: While moving a VM from source to target region, you will incur network egress costs to replicate data changes from the source VM disks to another Azure region. Azure Resource Mover utilizes ASR replication technology underneath, which compresses the data before transfer. Hence, egress cost is charged for the compressed replication data.
    • Temporary resources costs: Charges might be incurred due to temporary resources on target region (E.g.: Storage resources to host replica disks) required while the move is happening.
    • Fixed costs: Licensing or fixed costs can be incurred as part of the regional move. E.g. ASR licensing costs for VM replication or SQL Geo replication costs to move SQL DBs across regions.
