Microsoft IT Pro Cloud Essentials Azure FAQ | Microsoft Azure

This restricted offer provides entitled customers with monetary credits to access Microsoft Azure at no charge.

Flexibility with Azure Credits

You receive Microsoft Azure monetary credits as entitled customers. The amount of monetary credits provided to you monthly and the duration of the offer is identified at time of offer activation. The choice is yours on how you use your Microsoft Azure credits. Use them on any Microsoft Azure service based on your needs including, Virtual Machines, Websites, Cloud Services, Mobile Services, Storage, SQL Database, HDInsight, Media Services, and many more.

Use up to your monthly Microsoft Azure credits at no charge. If you exceed your monthly credits, your service will be disabled for that month. You can choose to turn off your Spending Limit, and any usage each month in excess of the monthly credits will be charged at the Pay-As-You-Go rates. Read more about the Spending Limit feature. Accounts that did not have an Azure subscription, including free trial, prior to July 14, 2014 will convert the Azure Pass subscription to a Pay-As-You-Go subscription at the end of the offer period if the spending limit is removed indefinitely at least 5 days prior to expiration.

Any unused monthly credits cannot be carried over to subsequent months and cannot be transferred to other Azure subscriptions. Any taxes which may result from receiving services at no charge are the sole responsibility of the recipient. You will be notified at least 30 days in advance of any changes to the rates.

Exclusions

Azure Credits may not be used to purchase Azure support plans, third-party branded products, or products otherwise sold separately from Azure (for example, Microsoft Entra ID Premium).

AzureU Program

Microsoft Azure credits provided to an accredited university, college, community college, etc. (“accredited educational institutions”) in connection with the AzureU program are provided solely to support student coursework, academic research or student projects associated with such coursework or research, and not for the personal use or benefit of any individual educator. Credits must be used in accordance with applicable laws and regulations regarding gratuitous services to accredited educational institutions, including the gifting policies of the institution. Use must be discontinued if there is a conflict or inconsistency with those laws, regulations or policies. Recipients should discuss the Azure credits with their institution’s ethics officer in advance to ensure compliance with the institutions gifting policies. Microsoft waives any and all entitlement to compensation from the accredited educational institution for the Azure credits provided in connection with the AzureU program.

Resource Commitment

All increases in usage levels of service resources (e.g. adding to the number of compute instances running, or increasing the amount of storage in use) are subject to the availability of these service resources. Any quota described in the Limits, Quotas and Constraints section is not a commitment that there will be sufficient resources available for you to reach the quota.

For any subscriptions of this offer that are not incurring charges and are inactive for more than 90 days, we reserve the right to remove any compute resources including hosted service(s), virtual machines and websites. Please note that no data would be deleted and customers can redeploy at any time. We will also provide advance notice prior to removing any compute resources.

You can also avoid having your compute resources removed by doing either of the following every 90 days:

  1. Log into the Azure portal.
  2. Access your resources via our Azure APIs.

Frequently asked questions

  • No worries, Azure Pass account can only be used as “Microsoft Accounts.” During login you might have been asked to select “Microsoft Account” or “Organizational Account” make sure to select the appropriate account otherwise it will appear as the subscription will not be available. In case you didn’t select any option log-out and log-in under the appropriate account. The browser will often default to “Organizational Account” once it is selected, so you may need to reset your browser cache.

  • Once an Azure subscription has become disabled, Microsoft will retain the data on that subscription for 90 days. At any point you can create a support case through the Azure portal to re-enable that subscription and the services will still be available.

  • No, Azure Pass credits do not support account ownership transfer.

  • You will receive USD25 credit every month until the pass expires. Azure will use the USD25 credit amount first, any usage over USD25 will be charged to the credit card on file. In case you did not remove the spending cap, you will have to manually authorize payment to charge for usage above the USD25 limit.

  • You can enter a credit card and convert to a Pay-As-You-Go account.

  • You will not be able to make any changes to your services for the rest of the billing period. Any services you created will still be present, but they will not be active. If this is the last month of your Azure Pass, then at the end of the month, the account will be deactivated unless you convert to a paid account.

  • If you provide a credit card and grant permission to charge, then you will be able to utilize your services seamlessly, any usage over USD25/monthly credit will be charged to the credit card.

  • Prior to the expiration date you will have the opportunity to migrate your data to a paid Microsoft Azure subscription. You have 90 days after expiration before your data is removed. If you are planning to convert to a paid subscription it is recommend you do this prior to expiration, reactivating accounts will require opening a support ticket. If you choose to not migrate your Microsoft Azure account to a paid account, please be sure to copy your data.

  • You need to contact support and while activating/migrating your subscription to PAYG support might need your non-expiry credit card details please have them handy for faster turnaround.
