Azure Red Hat OpenShift pricing

Fully managed OpenShift service, jointly operated with Red Hat

Azure Red Hat OpenShift provides a flexible, self-service deployment of fully managed OpenShift clusters. Master nodes, infrastructure nodes, application nodes run on Azure Virtual Machines, billed at Linux VM pricing. Compute, networking and storage resources consumed by your cluster are billed according to usage.

In addition to the compute and infrastructure costs, application nodes have an additional cost for the OpenShift licence component. This is billed based on the number of application nodes and the instance type. Use on-demand pricing, or reserved instances, whichever best meets the need of your workload and business.

All standard Azure purchasing options, including reservations and Azure Prepayment can be used for Azure Red Hat OpenShift and for virtual machines, networking and storage resources consumed by your cluster.

Prices are estimates only and are not intended as actual price quotes. Actual pricing may vary depending on the type of agreement entered with Microsoft, date of purchase, and the currency exchange rate. Prices are calculated based on US dollars and converted using London closing spot rates that are captured in the two business days prior to the last business day of the previous month end. If the two business days prior to the end of the month autumn on a bank holiday in major markets, the rate setting day is generally the day immediately preceding the two business days. This rate applies to all transactions during the forthcoming month. Sign in to the Azure pricing calculator to see pricing based on your current programme/offer with Microsoft. How pricing works

Azure Red Hat OpenShift offers two deployment models:

  1. Standard clusters where control plane runs on VMs in your subscription – These clusters are billed on two components:
    • Azure Infrastructure: Your cluster runs on Azure Virtual Machines, both control plane nodes and worker nodes, billed at standard Linux VM pricing.
    • OpenShift license: You will incur a flat OpenShift license fee for the worker cores your cluster consumes. The rate is the same regardless of VM series, size, or generation — the vCPUs (cores) are counted across your worker nodes and billed at one flat rate. Control plane nodes are not charged a separate license fee.
  2. Hosted Control Planes where Microsoft hosts the control plane for the cluster – These clusters are billed on three components:
    • Azure Infrastructure: Your cluster deploys Azure Virtual Machines as worker nodes, billed at standard Linux VM pricing.
    • OpenShift license: You will incur a flat OpenShift license fee for the worker cores your cluster consumes. The rate is the same regardless of VM series, size, or generation — the vCPUs (cores) are counted across your worker nodes and billed at one flat rate.

Component Price Purchasing options
OpenShift license (per worker core) $0.171/hour per 4 worker vCPUs (cores); the same rate applies to any VM type. Pay-as-you-go, or purchase a reservation on the OpenShift license (1- or 3-year term) (only applicable to Azure Red Hat Openshift with standard architecture)
Azure infrastructure (control plane (if applicable)+ worker VMs, storage, networking) Billed separately at standard Azure rates for Linux VMs. Standard clusters will also be billed for the cost of the control plane deployment, while the hosted control plane clusters will not. Pay-as-you-go, reservations, or Azure savings plan for compute.
