ExpressRoute pricing

ExpressRoute is a service that enables you to create private connections between Azure data centres and infrastructure that is on your premises or in a colocation environment. ExpressRoute connections don’t go over the public Internet, and offer more reliability, faster speeds, lower latencies and higher security than typical connections over the Internet.

Metered Data plan

All inbound data transfers are free of charge, and all outbound data transfers are charged based on a pre-determined rate (listed below). Users are also charged a fixed monthly port fee (based on High-availability dual ports).

Port speed Price per month Price per month with Premium Add-on Inbound data transfer included Outbound data transfers included
50 Mbps $- $- Unlimited None
100 Mbps $- $- Unlimited None
200 Mbps $- $- Unlimited None
500 Mbps $- $- Unlimited None
1 Gbps $- $- Unlimited None
2 Gbps $- $- Unlimited None
5 Gbps $- $- Unlimited None
10 Gbps $- $- Unlimited None

Outbound data transfers are charged at a rate of $- per GB for Zone 1, $- per GB for Zone 2 and $- per GB for Zone 3.

Once connected to an ExpressRoute location, users can connect to other regions in the same geo without the need for the premium add-on and at no additional cost on top of existing plan charges. For example, in the USA, customers can send or retrieve data to or from any Azure region in the USA without the need to pay an additional fee on top of their existing plan charges. Similarly, once connected to an ExpressRoute location in Europe, customers can send or retrieve data to or from any Azure region in Europe without the need to pay an additional fee on top of their existing plan charges.

Note: Customers may incur additional charges by their service providers to enable connectivity to ExpressRoute.

Unlimited Data plan

All inbound and outbound data transfers are free of charge. Users are charged a single fixed monthly port fee (based on High-availability dual ports).

ExpressRoute Premium Add-on

ExpressRoute Premium is an add-on over the ExpressRoute unlimited data plan/Metered data plan charges. The ExpressRoute Premium add-on provides the following capabilities:

  • Increased route limits for public and private peering from 4,000 routes to 10,000 routes.
  • Global connectivity for services. An ExpressRoute circuit created in any region (excluding Azure China, Azure Germany and Azure Government cloud) will have access to resources across any other region in the world. For example, a virtual network created in West Europe can be accessed through an ExpressRoute circuit provisioned in Silicon Valley.
  • Increased number of VNet links per ExpressRoute circuit from 10 to a larger limit (depending on the bandwidth of the circuit).
Refer to the ExpressRoute Technical documentation page for more details.

Support and SLA

  • We provide technical support for all Azure services released to General Availability, including ExpressRoute, through Azure Support, starting at $29.0/month. Billing and subscription management support is provided at no cost.

FAQs

  • You may have additional charges from your service provider to enable connectivity to ExpressRoute. Please contact your service provider to learn about their pricing.

  • For redundancy purposes, two ports (on two routers) are included in the monthly fee shown.

  • A sub-region is the lowest level geo-location that you may select to deploy your applications and associated data. For ExpressRoute, the following regions correspond to Zones 1, 2, 3 and Government:

Zone 1: West US, East US, North Central US, South Central US, East US 2, Central US, West Europe, North Europe, Canada East, Canada Central

Zone 2: East Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia East, Australia Southeast, Japan East, Japan West, Korea Central, Korea South, India South, India West, India Central

    Zone 3: Brazil South

Government Zone: US Gov. Iowa, US Gov. Virginia

  • ExpressRoute billing starts when a service key is issued to the customer, and it stops after (1) a customer requests a circuit to be deleted AND (2) the Exchange Provider or Network Service Provider has de-provisioned the circuit.

  • If your ExpressRoute service is active for the entire month, you will be charged the monthly fee regardless of usage. However, if you cancelled your ExpressRoute service during the month, you would only receive a prorated bill for the hours used and data transfer overage incurred.

  • You can increase the port speed at any time without any disruption. You can decrease port speed by deleting the circuit under the existing pricing plan and recreating it under the new pricing plan. Please coordinate with your service provider to provision the new circuit

  • While the specific answer depends on the circuit size, usage and region, the Unlimited Data pricing option would be a better choice if you have high levels of utilisation, and the Metered Data pricing option would be preferable for low levels of utilisation.

  • You can change your pricing plan from metered to unlimited at any time without any disruption. You can change the pricing plan from unlimited to metered by deleting the circuit under the unlimited pricing plan and recreating it under the metered pricing plan. Please coordinate with your service provider to provision the new circuit.

Please refer to the ExpressRoute Technical documentation page for more details
