Azure File offers fully managed file shares in the cloud, accessible via the industry standard Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. Azure File shares can be mounted concurrently by cloud or on-premises deployments of Windows, macOS and Linux. Enable file sharing between applications running in your virtual machines using familiar Windows APIs or File REST API. Additionally, Azure File Sync allows caching and synchronisation of Azure File shares on Windows Servers for local access.

US government entities are eligible to purchase Azure Government services from a licensing solution provider with no upfront financial commitment or directly through a pay-as-you-go online subscription.
Important: The price in R$ is merely a reference; this is an international transaction and the final price is subject to exchange rates and the inclusion of IOF taxes. An eNF will not be issued.
Azure Germany is available to customers and partners who have already purchased this, doing business in the European Union (EU), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and in the United Kingdom (UK). It provides data residency in Germany with additional levels of control and data protection. You can also sign up for a free Azure trial.
Standard storage | Available on general purpose v2 account types that provides access to the latest Azure storage features with pricing optimized for lowest GiB storage prices. A general purpose v2 storage account is a shared pool of storage in which you can deploy file shares as well as other storage resources, such as blobs or queues. Standard files shares are available on LRS, ZRS and GRS. Pricing for standard files storage is based on used GiB and operations. For more information, see details here. |
Premium storage | Available on FileStorage account types. Premium files storage is high-performance solid-state drive (SSD)-based storage, designed to support I/O-intensive workloads that require file share semantics, with significantly high throughput and low latency. Premium files shares is currently only available for LRS. Pricing for premium files shares is based on provisioned GiB and snapshot storage based on used GiB. Operations on premium files are free. For more information, see details here. |
General purpose v1 account types enables access to Block Blobs, Page Blobs, Files, Queues and Tables – offering our lowest transaction prices but with higher storage prices. General Purpose v1 accounts do not provide access to new storage features, ZRS, Cool and Archive storage.
Geo Zone Redundant Storage (GZRS) is the new replication option designed to provide at least 16 9’s durability of objects over a given year by replicating your data synchronously across three zones in the primary region (like ZRS today) and asynchronously to another region within the same geo across a single zone (like LRS today). When using GZRS, your data is durable in the case of a data centre failure, zone failure, complete regional outage or a disaster in which the primary region isn’t recoverable. For more details, please refer to the announcement blogpost or the supporting documentation.
GZRS prices are discounted preview prices and will change at the time of general availability.

Premium storage is billed on provisioned GiB, which means you just pay price per GiB with no transaction fees. Provisioned size of shares is specified by quota on the shares. You can configure your premium shares based on your storage size, IOPS and throughput requirements. IOPS and throughput scale based on the provisioned share size. You can adjust size of the shares based on your needs. If you decrease the provisioned shares size below the used GiB, you will be billed for the used GiB on premium shares. The following table summarises the relationship between the provisioned share size and share performance characteristics:
Premium | Range | Calculated as |
---|---|---|
Provisioned share size (GiB) | 100-102,400 (in increments of 1 GiB) | Specified by share quota |
Baseline IOPS | 100-100,000 | 1 * provisioned GiB |
Burst IOPS (on a best effort basis) | 300-100,000 | 3 * Baseline IOPS |
Egress rate (MiB/s) | 66-6,204 | 60 MiB/s + 0.06 * provisioned GiB |
Ingress rate (MiB/s) | 44-4,136 | 40 MiB/s + 0.04 * provisioned GiB |

Standard storage is billed based on pay as you go, which means you pay a price per GiB that’s stored on the share, and then additional price for any transactions on your data. A standard file share is subject to the limits of a file share and storage account documented in Azure Files scale targets.

File sync prices
These are the costs of syncing your files from Windows servers to Azure File shares in the cloud. Learn more about Azure File Sync.
The total cost of Azure File Sync (AFS) services is determined by the number of servers that connect to the cloud endpoint (Azure File Share) plus the underlying costs of File storage (including storage and access costs) and outbound data transfer.
Below is the fixed monthly fee per server.
