Hard coded IP address for Azure Site Recovery will be retired on 31st August 2024

Published date: 25 August, 2021

We are extending the retirement due date for hard coded IP addresses to connect with Azure Site Recovery services as we know that it takes time to adjust to changes. The new retirement due date is 31st August 2024.

Please transition to Azure service tags soon, as service tags is a security feature enhancement that allows or denies any traffic to your critical workloads and reduces the complexity of frequent updates to network security rules. Here is a quick comparison between hard coded IP addresses and service tags:

Hard coded IP addresses

Service tags

  • Limitation in updating IP addresses when a service change occurs
  • Minimises the possibility of causing a breaking change
  • Current features require frequent security updates
  • Service tags ensure better security, stability and resiliency
  • Ongoing replications may be disrupted during a service upgrade
  • Ongoing replications are not affected by a service change

Required action
To minimise disruption and security vulnerabilities, transition to service tags before 31st August 2024. Beginning 1st September 2024, net-new hard coded IP addresses will not be supported.
