When you need to go beyond the Query Optimizer execution plan and manually optimise your queries for specific conditions, the Query Store hints feature provides an easy-to-use method for shaping query plans and behaviour without changing the application code. Experiment within a tight loop by trying different hints and assessing the performance impact, all within SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) or Azure Data Studio.
