Public preview: App Service Managed Certificates now supports apex domains
Published date: 17 March, 2021
App Service Managed Certificates allow users to secure custom domains added to their web app at no additional cost. In the initial release of the feature, certificates were issued only to sub-domains. Now, users can create a managed certificate for apex domains added to their Linux and Windows web app. The issued certificate for apex domains will be similar to the certificate issued for sub-domains in that it will be a standard certificate and not a wildcard certificate. Each certificate will be valid for six months, and about a month before the certificate’s expiration date, App Service will renew the certificate. The apex domain support uses HTTP token validation which App Service will set up on your behalf. This scenario is not supported for web apps that cannot be accessed from public internet.
