Classic alerts in Azure Monitor to retire in June 2019
Posted on 23 October 2018
Azure Monitor has now become a unified full stack monitoring service across resources. For more information, see our blog post on the new Azure Monitor service.
The new Azure monitoring and alerting platform has been built to be faster, smarter, and extensible—keeping pace with the growing expanse of cloud computing and in line with the Microsoft Intelligent Cloud philosophy. With the new Azure Monitor service in place, we will be retiring the "classic" monitoring and alerting platform. The classic monitoring and alerting platform is currently usable from the Alerts (classic) section of the Azure portal.
Classic monitoring and alerting will be retired on 30th June 2019; including the closure of related APIs, the Azure portal interface, and services in it. Specifically, the following will be retired:
- Older (classic) metrics and alerts for Azure resources via the Alerts (classic) section of Azure portal, accessible as a microsoft.insights/alertrules resource
- Older (classic) platform and custom metrics for Azure Application Insights as well as alerting via the Alerts (classic) section of the Azure portal and accessible as a microsoft.insights/alertrules resource
- Older (classic) Failure Anomalies available as Smart Detection inside Application Insights in the Azure portal, with alerts in the Alerts (classic) section of the Azure portal
We will soon provide tools to allow you to voluntarily migrate your alerts from the Alerts (classic) section of the Azure portal to the new Azure alerts.
We encourage users to get started and create alerts in the new platform. For details on the alerting options in the new Azure Monitor platform for Application Insights as well as other Azure resources and the retirement impact on classic alerts, see the article Unified alerting and monitoring in Azure Monitor replaces classic alerting and monitoring. The article will be updated along with the tools to assist users in adopting the new Azure Monitor platform.
