App Service regional Virtual Network integration is now available
Published date: March 18, 2020
The regional Virtual Network integration feature has now entered general availability (GA) and supports sending all outbound calls into your virtual network. Use features like network NSGs and UDRs against all outbound traffic from your web app. Specifically, these new changes enable you to:
- Access non-RFC1918 endpoints through your virtual network.
- Secure all outbound traffic leaving your web app.
- Force tunnel all outbound traffic to a network appliance of your own choosing.
The pre-existing gateway-required Virtual Network integration feature will continue to be supported. It supports integrations with virtual networks in other regions, or classic virtual networks. This feature is now generally available in all public regions, and applies only to Windows apps. Regional Virtual Network integration for Linux apps is still in preview.
To use regional Virtual Network integration, your app must be in a Standard, Premium, Premiumv2, or Elastic Premium App Service plan. The feature isn’t relevant in an App Service environment which is already in a customer virtual network. It’s only for outbound calls being made by your apps, and doesn’t enable private access to your apps.
