  • Initially you must purchase a minimum of three nodes (or instance sizes) when you provision the service for the first time.
  • Customers are charged hourly each time they provision a node. You can also choose to buy reserved instances for Azure VMware Solution for one- or three-year periods.

  • For all your Windows Server and SQL Server workloads on Azure VMware Solutions, you get Extended Security Updates at no additional charge for 3 years. If these workloads are deployed on-premises or on other clouds, the security updates would cost you an additional 75% of license price of the latest versions of Windows Server and SQL Server annually. This significant cost savings frees you to invest in modernizing your Windows Server and SQL Server workloads. In addition, you can take advantage of Azure Hybrid Benefit, allowing you to run your Windows Server and SQL Server workloads both on-premises and in the cloud.

  • Yes, Azure VMware Solution (AVS) requires a portable VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) subscription and license key. VMware customers with eligible VCF entitlements can transfer their subscriptions to AVS, enabling mobility between on-premises and Azure. This flexibility helps organizations modernize IT infrastructure while retaining the rights to their software. For AVS pricing and further details, contact your Microsoft account team or preferred partner.
  • AVS is a fully managed service which now requires a portable VCF subscription. When you bring your VCF subscription to AVS, Microsoft installs, patches and maintains VCF as part of the AVS managed service.
  • Yes VMware HCX, VCF Automation and VCF Operations (formerly Aria) are supported in the Azure VMware Solutions offering when you bring your portable VCF subscription to AVS. VMware vDefend Firewall is an add-on that can be purchased from Broadcom.
