Instant recovery of files from Azure Linux Virtual Machine backups
Published date: October 23, 2017
Instantly restore files from Azure Linux Virtual Machine backups with no additional cost or new infrastructure by using Azure Backup. You'll be able to quickly mount an iSCSI-based recovery volume, then browse and copy the files to the destination of your choice. With this feature, users will be able to:
- Instantly recover files. Whether the issue is an accidental file deletion or simply validating the backup, instant restore will drastically reduce the time needed to recover data.
- Mount application files without restoring them. You'll be able to use our iSCSI-based approach to open or mount application files directly from cloud recovery points to application instances, without having to first restore them. For example, in case of backup of an Azure Linux Virtual Machine running MongoDB, you'll be able to mount BSON data dumps from the cloud recovery point. From there, you could quickly validate the backup, or retrieve individual items such as tables, without having to download the entire data dump.
This feature will soon be available in preview for customers of Azure Virtual Machine backup. For more information, visit the Azure blog and Azure Backup documentation for file recovery from Azure Virtual Machine backups.
